YOU ARE MORE THAN A BICYCLE

A few weeks back I visited Elder Gallery where I came upon this piece entitled ‘Last Stage of the Mantis Cycle’ by Martin Settle. This is a sculpture of a praying mantis made entirely out of bicycle parts.

In our lives, we have opportunities to think of ways to remain relevant and remarkable. The ‘old’ bicycle parts showed up in a way that resonated a renewed vibrancy. These parts are not old, simply repurposed. This piece is a wonderful reflection of the work I do with many of my individual coaching clients, reimagining a different way to see future opportunites.

Through the work they do with me, clients ‘see’ other possbilibities for their lives. They learn the tools to see that their future does not equal their past. We don’t use the word “reinvention.” To me this means that all you have done to this point has no merit, no validity, no purpose. I prefer to think of this as refreshed process to remain relevant and remarkable:

  • Re.Imagine a different future through courage, creativity, and disrupting your status quo. Making a transition is a process that helps you rediscover your fascinations and then incorporate this rediscovery into your life every single day.
  • Re.Focus your goals and approaches to create a refined path forward. Individuals who are still relevant and remarkable can add possibilities and action into their life and their career.
  • Re.Boot and build healthy support networks to sustainability. You need to take action, even small deliberate steps everyday in order to shift your paradigm from what was to your next what. There is magic in all of the little decisions of life.
Stepping into this gallery on a Saturday afternoon, provided surprising inspiration. You never know where inspiration will find and give you the gift of reflection. Maybe this sculpture could serve as my firm’s mascot?

You are more than a bicycle. You are…..
