I May Have Lost My Estrogen But I Have Not Lost My Right To Vote

Early voting has begun in North Carolina, I am reminded that we have a lot of ways to make choices in our lives. As much as some people would like to infuse their radical beliefs onto us, I am sharing a list of brave and simple actions each one of us can take:

VOTE FOR THE CANDIDATE THAT DOESN’T SCARE YOU– because as women it is the thing we must do. How do you chose the right candidate? Look at the issues that your passionate about. For me there are two issues. The first issue is my right to choose, which includes making my own decisions about my health, and making my own decisions about who to marry. The second issue is economic access for all including education, culture and employment. Vote for the candidate that shares your values, the one that supports your passion and your interests.

VOTE FOR THE CANDIDATE THAT SHARES YOUR VIEWS ON HEALTHCARE – Do you want politicians making healthcare decisions for you. Heck no! If you don’t take your health seriously no-one else will. Do you want some politician to take away your decisions about your body as well as access to healthcare? And don’t forget to schedule your long overdue mammography. So it hurts a little and it takes only a few seconds. It could save your life. Make sure you vote for the candidates that support your view about healthcare

VOTE FOR THE CANDIDATE THAT SUPPORT EQUALITY FOR ALL – I think it is wonderful when two people who love, cherish and respect each other want to marry regardless of gender. There are still way too many people who fear same-sex marriage?  I believe that we should not judge another, based upon their personal choices in love, prayer or style of dress. It has no impact on their ability to be a good person. Make sure you vote for the candidates that support your view on equality.

VOTE FOR THE CANDIDATE THAT SUPPORTS EQUAL PAY FOR EQUAL WORK – It was wonderful that the government implemented the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, however we must now find ways to implement the intention so we actually see the results in our paychecks. Make sure the candidates you vote for supports pay equality for women as well as works towards eliminating pay discrimination once and for all based upon sex, race, national origin, age, religion and disability. Make sure you vote for the candidates that support your view on equal pay.

WALK TO THE POLLS  AND MOVE EVERYDAY – As we get older, our bodies change and sometimes, don’t work and look the way we want them to.  One simple and effective way to age-proof your body, is to get up and move. If possible, park the farthest from the voting place, and walk to the polling place. This way you have accomplished two great things in your day, moving and voting.

BREATHE DEEPLY – Take moments throughout the day to engage in a few rounds of deep luxurious breathing. And remember to breathe while standing in line to vote. Be nice to the folks around you, even those supporting candidates you don’t like.  Remember, the only way we will have a government that represents your views, is to vote those candidates into office.

NOW IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO VOTE. NO EXCUSES.  If you don’t vote then you can’t change the narrative in government. If you don’t vote, then don’t complain about the actions that follow. Okay, if you vote, you can still complain. Then take action.
