The Tribe of the Sisterhood

One of the most profound things you can realize when you are experiencing the symptoms of either perimenopause of menopause is that you are not CRAZY!  Each one of us experiences varying degrees of hot flashes, night sweats (I was going to say sweets – but that is a topic for another day), mood swings (I have developed the ability to laugh and cry at the same moment), dryness, weight gain, libido changes, energy fluctuations and … Sometimes it feels like someone stole your hormones? Symptoms can slowly appear or they show up in a flash. You never know, it is so unpredictable.

The other night I went to a screening of Hot Flash Havoc here in Charlotte. The screening was informative, funny and true. The movie provided a lot of useful information especially what you can do to mitigate your current symptoms and what you should consider as preventive measures for the rest of your life.

I met many interesting women and realized that we are all part of the same tribe. We need to talk more about this part of our lives and share information and knowledge with each other. We need to support, nurture, encourage and collaborate more. We need to continue to ask a lot of questions. And equally important, we need to be our own advocates/change agents as we navigate through the next phases of our lives.  We do not have to suffer.

We have a lot left to do because we are not done yet!
